AUSTRALIAN MENTAL HEALTH HUMAN RIGHTS AND LAW REFORM COALITION
AMHHRLRC is an independent, non-profit community Mental Health, Human Rights and Law Reform Coalition based in Melbourne, Australia.
It is 100% independent from all Government Departments, Public Authorities, Corporations and Religious Organizations.
AMHHRLRC promotes, protects, respects, fulfills and enhances the Human Rights of people experiencing issues related to Emotional and Spiritual Well being and given Psychiatric Labels using both Public, Community and Private Mental Health Facilities.
We focus upon Human Rights: Freedom, Respect, Equality, Dignity, Justice and Redress for people who are Indigenous, from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and Non English Speaking Backgrounds, are Incarcerated. in Detention, experiencing disadvantage, living in poverty or are from disenfranchised or marginalised communities.
It does this through public education, advocacy, political activism, peaceful protest, lobbying, mutual support, capacity building, strategic litigation, Mental Health/Human Rights Law Reform to improve Mental Health Services.
We believe that all Public and Private Mental Health and Community Services must promote, protect, respect, fulfill and enhance Human Rights. They should also be: inclusionary, fair and non discriminatory, empowering and participatory, person centred, holistic (whole of person approach), trauma informed and accountable and transparent to the people and communities they are funded to protect, care and serve. These services should be Community initiated, managed and controlled.
We are a non-violent Activist Coalition which includes: Users and Survivors of Psychiatry/Psychology, their Families, Carers, Friends, Mental Health Professionals and Communities opposed to the use of Involuntary Mental Health Care and Treatment, Psychiatric incarceration, Torture, Psychiatric Force, Coercion, Chemical/Physical Restraint, Seclusion and Electro Convulsive Therapy without informed consent.
All protection, care and Mental Health " treatment " must be consistent with Australian and International Human Rights Law, respect individual integrity, dignity, their right to self determination, personal autonomy and free will.
Human Rights,Freedom, Respect, Equality, Dignity, Justice and Redress for all Australians experiencing Emotional and Spiritual Distress and given Psychiatric Labels.
